What is Stress??

Stress is difficult for scientists to define because it is a subjective sensation associated with varied symptoms that differ for each of us. In addition, stress is not always a synonym for distress. Situations like a steep roller coaster ride that cause fear and anxiety for some can prove highly pleasurable for others. Winning a race or election may be more stressful than losing but this is good stress.

Increased stress increases productivity – up to a point, after which things rapidly deteriorate, and that level also differs for each of us. It’s much like the stress or tension on a violin string. Not enough produces a dull raspy sound and too much an irritating screech or snaps the string – but just the correct degree of stress creates a beautiful tone.
Similarly, we all have to find the right amount of stress that permits us to make pleasant music in our daily lives. You can learn how to utilize and transform stress so that it will make you more productive and less self-destructive.

what is STRESS???

Hi friends, from my point of view stress is a feeling that's created when we react to particular events. It's the body's way of rising to a challenge and preparing to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness.
The events that provoke stress are called stressors, and they cover a whole range of situations - everything from outright physical danger to making a class presentation or taking a semester's worth of your toughest subject.
The human body responds to stressors by activating the nervous system and specific hormones. The hypothalamus signals the adrenal glands to produce more of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol and release them into the bloodstream. These hormones speed up heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, and metabolism. Blood vessels open wider to let more blood flow to large muscle groups, putting our muscles on alert. Pupils dilate to improve vision. The liver releases some of its stored glucose to increase the body's energy. And sweat is produced to cool the body. All of these physical changes prepare a person to react quickly and effectively to handle the pressure of the moment.
This natural reaction is known as the stress response. Working properly, the body's stress response enhances a person's ability to perform well under pressure. But the stress response can also cause problems when it overreacts or fails to turn off and reset itself properly.

Kids and stress: Brandon's story

I found this article about stress and I will like to share it with you. Enjoy reading it :D

Hi! My name is Brandon. I am nine years old. I have Asperger's Syndrome. It is a brain disorder that's on the high end of the Autism spectrum. That means I am very smart and do good in school, but I have problems with social issues.

Lots of things cause stress in my life. Asperger's makes it hard from me to deal with my emotions. Things overwhelm me easily. I have trouble controlling these feelings.
Noise overwhelms me. If the classroom is noisy, I have a lot of problems. I like music, but only for a while. After 15 minutes, music becomes noise to me. Music class is hard for me.
The feel of different clothing can cause stress for me. This is not as bad for me as it is for kids who have severe cases of Asperger's. Mine is a mild case. I don't know how those other kids cope.

The textures of some foods cause stress for me. They make me feel like I have sand or wood in my mouth. One of these foods is broccoli.

I can't take hot weather or being too warm. This causes me to be overwhelmed. If my hair is too long, it makes me too hot and that drives me crazy. My problem is that I don't communicate my feelings well. Sometimes I don't know what causes me to feel so overwhelmed.

I have trouble making friends. Kids think I'm weird. They call me names, which hurts my feelings. When this happens, I become overwhelmed and react badly. I am learning to control my emotions, but it is hard work. I find it easier this year to cope than I did last year. They tell me that every year it will get easier.

School is another thing that causes me a lot of stress. I find school work that is at my grade level boring. It is hard to sit in class everyday when I'm bored. My teacher has made a deal with me. If I do my work without problems, she gives me something from the "hot list." The "hot list" is work that is far above my grade level. This is the work I like to do.

Sometimes being around people is very stressful. This includes other kids and my family. When this happens, I like to be alone. I often go to my room to calm down from stress. Mom and Grandma encourage me to tell them when I need to be alone. I've found this works very well. Then they know that I'm stressed and give me time to calm down.

Stress is very hard to deal with for kids like me. I'm lucky to have an understanding family. My principal and teachers understand, too. I'm lucky to have people to help me cope with the stress in my life.

All of us have feel stress sometimes for several reasons. But we ought to remember to not let stress overtake us. We should learn from this kid's attitude-Brandon realized his problems and tried his best to cope with it.

what is stress?

To me, stress is a feeling that causes someone to feel uneasy. It disturbs the mind and will eventually wear out the body. It happens to a person when he/she gets worry too much about something or when he/she has to do mutiple tasks at a time. People who feel stress continuously are not able to do their works efficiently. This feeling often happened to me when I have no confident to do some tasks or have to bear some heavy responsibilities.

In the medical dictionary(medicine.net), stress is forces from the outside world impinging on the individual. Stress is a normal part of life that can help us learn and grow. Stress releases powerful neurochemicals and hormones that prepare us for action to fight or flee. If we don't take action, the stress response can lead to health problems. Prolonged, uninterrupted, unexpected, and unmanageable stresses are the most damaging types of stress.
